#FridayCatchUp – The Future is Golden

This week we’re announcing the launch of our campaign, aimed at all Finalists out there who are currently looking at what to do next! Careers are here at this stressful time in your life to let you know that “the Future is Golden!” for each and every one of you.

Our proud mascot for this campaign is Pat the duck:

If you’re around Careers between 10am – 5pm, Monday to Friday, do feel free to drop into our Info Room and pat the duck for luck in your careers search (and have a photo taken to prove you were here)!

While you’re at the desk, our info team will be very happy to help you with any queries you might have about our resources for Finalists that we’ll be highlighting over the next two weeks. Similarly, our wonderful team of Student Brand Managers will be out on campus from next Monday with this information (And some wonderful duck balloons too)! If you see them out in their green hoodies, they’ll be more than happy to talk with you about your situation and redirect you to the best resources to help you.

The Future is Golden Key Resources:

Careers Gateway: your one stop shop for events, employers, vacancies and booking Careers appointments!

Employability Tutorial: our improved online tutorial will support you through your career planning from generating initial ideas to analysing graduate destinations and from skills analysis to picking your dream industry.

The York Award: This employability certificate is a great chance to reflect on what you’ve learned during your time at York before practising your application style and interview approach with detailed feedback from the team here at Careers.

Graduate Profiles: This ever-expanding database from our alumni allows you to filter through profiles to find people from your subject, in your dream sector or from particular years to see what they enjoy about their job and how they found the recruitment process. There’s also a contact option for certain graduates, so you can get in touch with them to ask more detailed questions about their career so far.

We’re also promoting our upcoming events, such as:

Global Connect 7 November in Physics from 5.00-6.30pm, our international work fair for those looking to work, study or volunteer abroad with over 20 exhibitors including BUNAC, Raleigh International and JET;

Assessment Centre Activity Day 20 November in the Ron Cooke Hub from 2.00-6.00pm where you’ll get the chance to try some typical selection process exercises, courtesy of Aviva, Teach First, Network Rail and Jaguar Land Rover;

Interview Masterclass 5 February 2014 with a panel of Times Top 100 employers to offer insight into a variety of interview approaches.

For more information on these and our central events, check out our events page.

We look forward to seeing you here in Careers or out on campus very soon, and remember, the Future is Golden!
