Each department has a named Careers Adviser who works closely with it to decide on relevant careers-related activities to support you each academic year. 

Alongside our central session of careers activities which are open to everyone, we offer a range of tailored sessions in each academic department each term. Examples include CV sessions where you get the chance to see and review sample CVs reflecting your degree and related career areas; and sessions focusing on finding work experience based on your degree discipline.

During Spring term, Careers Advisers will be out and about giving a talk to first years  as part of our “Spring into Action 2014” campaign. They will help you to understand how to make the most of your time at University – and why this is important.  You will find out how to generate career ideas, develop new skills and make use of the resources and support available to you in Careers – so don’t miss this session.

Also in Spring term students in English and Related Literature, History of Art, Politics and Education will have the chance to apply for our innovative @work project – developing important employability skills and gaining valuable work experience in delivering a team based project.  Read more about the @work programme and if you belong to these departments, look out for the launch next term.

Another aspect of our work with departments is putting  on Alumni events  – giving you the chance to get career inspiration from past graduates who’ve studied your subject. This is a great way to help you understand the variety of career options open to you after York – you might be surprised by what some graduates from your subject have gone on to do!

We run careers appointments every day in Careers, and these are open to all students to book via Careers Gateway, but we also regularly offer additional appointments for your department – so you have even more opportunities to talk to us.
