The University of Sheffield Careers Service has launched two free mini-MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) to help students and recent graduates with applications and interviews.
The courses are three weeks each and are highly participative. They include articles to read, videos to watch and interactive material to help learners better understand the topic. There will also be discussion forums where you can support each other, self-reflective exercises and quizzes.
How to succeed at: Writing Applications
The main aim of this first course is to equip learners with the tools to help you write more effective applications. We’ll be sharing some of the best techniques and top tips on writing CVs, covering letters and application forms. We’ll then go on to help you examine your digital footprint and develop a professional online profile.
How to Succeed at: Interviews
The second course will help learners to prepare for interviews. During the three weeks, we will share with you some of the best practices that you can use to tackle interviews more effectively, whether you are applying for jobs or courses. Each week will look at a different element of the interview process, from preparation and research, selling yourself on the day, to understanding the different types of interview that take place. You will also learn about what the recruiter is looking for, how to anticipate what questions might be asked, and how to approach answering them.
