If you’ve so much as peeked at our website, you’ll know there’s a lot of information on there and sometimes, really useful pages can get lost among the rest of the site. So you don’t miss out on these hidden web gems, we’d like to highlight just some of them for you.
Sometimes you just need a pointer to get an idea of what you should be doing and when.
You’re a final year undergrad – what’s the most important things to be thinking about in the Spring Term? First year student wanting some ideas of what to try to help you get experience and skills? The Timeline can help suggest some interesting and useful activities whatever stage you’re at.
It’s also got weekly careers events listed and links to some great stuff. You can search by year of study / particular term / individual week.
Long, text-heavy web pages can be too overwhelming, but short ones just don’t give you enough detail.
That’s why we have (dotted about the website) pdfs of our information sheets. They cover graduate jobs and where to find them; looking at the ins and outs of further study; getting started thinking about your future career; plus a whole lot more.
So, rather than cluttering up a web page with lots of links, click on the info sheets and find out more.
3. Job sectors
If you’re trying to research different types of work, it can be a little confusing with so many different resources and sites. We’ve taken some of the hassle away for you by giving you the basics and a few choice links.
We’ve also included some ideas of what you can do to improve your chances in particular sectors by suggesting activities available to you while you’re at York.
While the majority of the Careers website is relevant to all students, some student groups might need some specific info and advice.
Our web pages for student and alumni groups (eg international students, students with disabilities, postgraduate students) gives additional info that applies to these groups. Don’t forget to use the rest of the site too, though!
It’s good to hear how past students have got on – you can get an insight into a particular type of work or company, which can be useful when developing your career ideas.
Lots of York graduates have passed on their experiences through the York profiles. You can search by a number of criteria, including the subject they studied, the sector they’re working in now, the qualification they gained from York.
As well as an interesting read, the profiles also offer a chance to connect with our alumni and ask them further questions. Also – coming soon – the profiles will also offer a chance of mentoring from a York grad.
There’s lots more worth highlighting on the website, so be sure to take a closer look. If you can’t find what you’re after, just ask!
