4 things to know about careers support over the summer

Lectures and seminars may have finished and a lot of students will soon be off-campus for the summer, but careers support is still available throughout the vacation.

Careers and Placements is still (more or less) open

Although we may have slightly reduced opening times, we’re still available throughout the vacation.

The Careers Building is open Monday to Thursday, 10am to 4pm, if you’re on campus and want to call in. For phone calls and e-enquiries, you can contact us Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm.

We’ll be closed for both in-person and online enquiries on Wednesday 26 June for staff training and Monday 26 August for the public holiday, but otherwise we’ll be here to help you.

However, make sure you check our opening times if you’re thinking of visiting, as times may change due to unforeseen circumstances.

You can have a 1:1 discussion with one of our Careers Consultants

Appointments are still available, albeit slightly reduced in number. There’ll also still be a choice between face-to-face or online appointments to suit you.

Careers Advice appointments are a great opportunity to answer your questions, discuss your choices and think about next steps. It’s also the perfect time to book, as they’re not quite in as much demand as they are during semester time.

Careers information is available online 24/7

Visit our website for quick answers to your initial questions. There’s lots of useful information about all-things careers, including writing a CV, considering your options, looking for work, planning your actions for next year.

You can get some great ideas from the website too. So if you’re looking ahead to next academic year and want to gain experience, develop your skills or plan your next steps, check it out. Also, take a look again at Your Career Journey. There’ll be a new version for the coming year, but you’ll still be able to get some ideas from the current edition.

Graduates – we’re still here for you

Support from Careers and Placements doesn’t end when you collect your degree. You’ll still be able to use our subscriptions to online tools like CareerSet for CV checking, ShortlistMe for interview practice and Handshake for job vacancies. What’s more, our fantastic team of Careers Consultants will still be available to help you after graduation in appointments, both virtual or in person.

Read more about what’s available for graduates and how to access it on our Alumni web page.
